Course Description

Risk assessment training provides information on how risk assessment strategies can be applied to a product development process.

Participants are taught through practical, real life examples which not only improve learning, but facilitate the application of risk assessment techniques.

Learning Objectives

The overall goal of intermediate safety training is to provide a mid-level exposure to the risk assessment safety process and hands-on training resulting in a broad understanding of key product safety issues.

This hands-on training is intended for product buyers, senior managers, risk managers, compliance managers, quality managers, creative designers, engineers, production managers, technologists, selectors, importers, exporters, regulators and internal auditors.

Prerequisites

Participants should complete the Introduction to product safety and compliance course (SCPRA01) before attending this course.  Alternatively, they should have a minimum of 6 months’ product safety and compliance experience and have completed the course pre-reading material.

Course Outline

Participants will be guided through the following topic areas:

  • Review of risk assessment methodologies used throughout the world
  • An overview of ISO 31000 Risk Management as it applies to product safety risk assessment
  • Risk assessing suppliers
  • A detailed and focused explanation of the world’s leading and most authoritative product safety risk assessment tool – the European Commission’s Risk Assessment Guidelines imbedded in the RAPEX System
  • Common products and risks (case studies of what went wrong and why)
  • Test methods
  • Practical hands-on product risk assessment exercise to enable group learning and experience sharing
